Despite offering heavy discounts on most of these models in December, all top 5 hatchbacks recorded YoY decline.

Swift was the highest selling hatchback for December 2023 which recorded a sales volume of 11,843 units last month. During the same period last year, Maruti sold 12,061 units of Swift. This led to a 2% YoY decline.

Maruti dispatched 10,669 units of Baleno last month which led to a significant YoY drop of 37%. During the same period last year, the Indo-Japanese carmaker sold 16,932 units of the premium hatchback.

With 8,578 units dispatched across the country in December 2023, Maruti Suzuki WagonR took the third spot. The tallboy hatch registered a YoY decline of 16% with the company selling 10,181 units during the same month the previous year.

Hyundai managed to grab hold the fourth spot with 5,247 units sold last month. It witnessed a YoY drop of 37% from 8,340 units sold in December 2022.

Tata Motors sold 4,852 units of its entry-level model Tiago last month, thus, recording a YoY decline of 20%. During the same period the previous year, 6,052 units of Tiago were dispatched by the homegrown carmaker across the country.
